Nature and wildlife are an endless source of inspiration. My passion is expressed through the mediums of pen, acrylics, gouache, oil paint and my sketch book.
I was born in Nairobi, Kenya. As a child, African wildlife inspired me, and local artisans introduced me to the beauty of carving, drawing and painting. I was in awe of the beauty of the world surrounding me. At a young age my family immigrated to Toronto, Canada. I continued to pursue art at the Ontario College of Art, where I studied Communication and Graphic Design. Since then, I have lived across Canada and the United States. It has provided countless opportunities to discover indigenous wildlife and varying landscapes.
I have attended numerous workshops with several master painters and wildlife conservationists, such as Robert Bateman. Robert Bateman is an incredible mentor, whose work has inspired me for more than 20 years! It has been a privilege and blessing to continue to learn from his generous instructions in art and our sacred planet.
Join me on NatureSketch.org – (NatureSketch Club – Ottawa), where I will be sharing my skills and knowledge to help encourage future artists/naturalists/conservationists! To view more of my artwork, please visit mariabuehl.com or Maria Buehl – Fine Art on Facebook.
